What Quorum's numbers do not tell you
Quorum shows a probability, and probabilities are routinely wrong. A team given a 90% chance loses roughly one time in ten — that is what the number means, not a flaw in it.
The “edge” figure is the difference between our model and the market. It means the two disagree. It does not mean the model is right, it does not mean value exists, and it is not a signal to bet. Our model is frequently the one that is wrong.
No system, model or tipster can make betting profitable reliably. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
Signs worth taking seriously
- Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
- Chasing losses by betting again to win money back.
- Borrowing money, or selling things, to fund betting.
- Hiding your betting from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not betting.
- Betting to escape stress, boredom or low mood.
If you recognise several of these, contacting one of the services above is a reasonable and unremarkable thing to do. They are free, and you do not have to be in crisis to call.
Practical steps
- Self-exclusion.
- In Australia, BetStop blocks you from every licensed online operator at once. In New Zealand, TAB NZ offers exclusion on request.
- Deposit limits.
- Every licensed operator lets you set one. Set it when you are calm, not when you are behind.
- Blocking software.
- Tools such as Gamban and BetBlocker restrict access to gambling sites across your devices.
- Talk to someone.
- The helplines above also support family and friends, not only the person betting.
Age restriction
Quorum is intended for adults aged 18 and over. Betting with a licensed operator in Australia or New Zealand requires you to be 18 or older.
